Here is the update provided by the Everett Fire Department

EVERETT, WA – Just before 10:00 a.m., Everett Fire Department crews responded to a reported apartment fire at Waterford Place Apartments in the Silver Lake neighborhood of south Everett, located at 2020 Lake Heights Drive. Multiple 911 callers reported flames and heavy smoke coming from a second-story apartment, with fire visible from a rear window and sliding glass door.
A visible smoke column could be seen by firefighters while en route. Engine 7 arrived first and confirmed active fire and smoke coming from the apartment, with fire extending into the attic space. Fire crews quickly knocked down the fire, bringing it under control within 10 minutes of arrival. Crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments and the remainder of the building.
Five apartment units were impacted. The involved unit sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. Four neighboring units experienced smoke and water damage. One adult male was transported by South County Fire to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett for smoke inhalation. No firefighters were injured.
Apartment management is working with displaced residents to coordinate temporary housing and support services. The Everett Fire Department thanks South County Fire for their partnership and mutual aid assistance.
The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire. Preliminary findings indicate the fire originated near a wood-burning fireplace, where combustible materials were located too close to the heat source. The investigation remains ongoing.

This video footage was provided by the Everett Police Department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) program, which was deployed during the incident. The drone captured the work of first-in crews, including fire suppression on the backside of the building and ventilation and roof operations conducted by the ladder crew. Suppression efforts at the front of the apartment building and inside are not shown.
The DFR program supports emergency response by providing aerial imagery, enhancing situational awareness, and helping crews coordinate response actions. We thank the Everett Police Department for providing these drone images.
FIRE SAFETY REMINDER
The Everett Fire Department reminds residents to keep fuel sources and combustible items—such as furniture, decorations, firewood, paper, and clothing—at least three feet away from fireplaces, space heaters, and other heating sources. Only approved fuel, such as seasoned firewood, should be burned in fireplaces. General trash, paper products, and household waste should never be burned. Residents should also ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area or going to sleep, and that working smoke alarms are installed and maintained in their homes to provide early warning in the event of a fire.
