On Saturday August 9th Apex Everett celebrated the opening of their newest venue, El Sid a coffee bar by day and lounge featuring live music at night. While not a “punk rock” bar there is a definite punk rock vibe to the space with posters of punk icons from the mid 1970s to 1980s on display. To mark the official opening owner John Carswell brought in Cherie Currie (former lead singer of the Runaways in the mid 1970s) and Annabella Lwin (original lead singer of BowWowWow in the early 1980s). Both Cherie and Annabella got their start at an early age so it was fitting that Carswell invited students from The Music Circle in Everett, Washington to open the show. Music students ranging in age from 10 – 18 performed a set of punk classics before being joined by both Currie and Lwin. Both mentored the students, offered advice and posed for photos with not only the kids but with the crowd in a huge meet and greet when the music ended.
