Update from Everett Fire Department via Press Release 9:00PM:
House Fire Injures One; Candle Suspected as Cause
FOR IMMEDIATE LEASE – January 7, 2026
Just after 9:30 a.m., Everett firefighters responded to a report of a house fire in the 2300 block of Walnut Street after neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from the back of the home.
Fire crews arrived quickly and extinguished the fire before it could spread through the rest of the home. A man in his 40s suffered smoke inhalation after trying to extinguish the fire himself. He was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center for further evaluation. No other residents were displaced.
Preliminary information indicates a candle caused the fire.
The Everett Fire Department urges residents to use caution when burning candles. Keep candles away from anything that can burn, place them on a stable surface, and never leave them unattended. Always extinguish candles before leaving a room or going to sleep.
Working smoke detectors alert occupants early, giving residents time to escape. Install smoke alarms on every level of the home and test them monthly.
Fire conditions can change rapidly, and smoke can overwhelm a person in seconds. The Everett Fire Department urges residents not to underestimate the danger of attempting to fight a fire themselves. If a fire is not immediately controlled or begins producing smoke, evacuate the home right away and call 911 from a safe location. Early evacuation can prevent serious injury or worse.
