For years Firefighters in Everett, Washington have been a leading fundraiser in the Annual Blood Cancer United, (formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society)ย Firefighter Stairclimb. This year it’s a bit more personal as one of their own, Captain DJ Neyens is facing a diagnosis of blood cancer – multiple myeloma. Here is more information from the Everett Fire Department Facebook page.

He is a father.
He is a husband.
He is a son.
He is a fire brother.
He is a Captain with the Everett Fire Department.
And now, he is courageously facing a new battle with blood cancer – multiple myeloma.
In March, Everett Firefighters will be participating in the Firefighter Stairclimb as #TeamNeyens in honor of DJ, carrying his strength and his story with them up every step.
But today, weโre asking our community to stand beside him.
On December 14th, January 18th, February 7th and March 21st from 9 AMโ2 PM, Everett Firefighters will be outside the Everett Costco (10200 19th Ave SE) collecting donations for the 2026 Firefighter Stairclimb.
For years, Captain Neyens has served the Everett community with honor and heart. As a firefighter, he has shown up on peopleโs hardest days โ ready to help, ready to protect, ready to serve.
And for years, he has also climbed in the Firefighter Stairclimb for others fighting blood cancer, carrying their names and their stories with him on every step.
With Captain Neyensโ permission, we share his story to raise awareness for Blood Cancer United (formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). Every dollar from the Firefighter Stairclimb funds life-changing research and brings us closer to a cure!
DJโs heart is full of gratitude for the love and support surrounding him. Even through treatment, his strength, hope, and quiet resilience inspire us all. Thankful for every person walking this journey alongside him.
This season, we celebrate the generosity of our Everett community!
Your support has helped raise nearly $1 million for blood cancer research โ making a real difference in countless lives.
