UPDATE 9:15AM: Spoke with Mandy Kruger who is the Public Information Officer on behalf of the SMART Team investigating this shooting. She advised around 2:30AM Everett Police responded to a report of a man firing shots in the area of Emerson Elementary in the 8700 block of 7th Avenue SE in Everett, Washington. Everett Police Officers contacted a man who was firing shots. They attempted to de-escalate the situation, deployed a taser and when the man continued to advance on officers, shots were fired. The man was hit by multiple rounds, transported by Medics to the hospital where he died from his wounds. At this point no further information is available but a formal press release is expected to be sent out this afternoon. You can follow updates on this and other SMART cases at this link. UPDATE 5:45AM: The investigation is now being turned over to the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team or SMART who are tasked with responding to and investigating law enforcement use of force events in Snohomish County. The investigation will run for several hours with 7th Ave SE blocked off between 84th and 92nd in Everett, Washington. Emerson Elementary and Saint Mary Magdalen Schools are both closed today. Seen in Everett has confirmed Everett Fire Department Medic Units transported one person to the hospital. Their status and injuries are unknown to us at this time.
ORIGINAL POST4:30AM: Officers from Everett Police as well as Edmonds, Mukilteo, Washington State Patrol. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies responded to a shots fired call in Everett, Washington around three o’clock this morning. Shots were reported in the area of Emerson Elementary School in the 8700 block of 7th Avenue SE. Everett Police have confirmed officers were involved in a shooting. No officers have been reported as injured. 7th SE is closed between 84th and 92nd. This will be an hours-long investigation. We’ll update as more information is made available.
