Around 4:20 Sunday afternoon firefighters in Everett, Washington were called to North Dock A at the Port of Everett where smoke was coming from a large boat at the south end of the dock. The fire was contained to the one vessel and no other boats were damaged and there were no reported injuries. The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating for the cause.
Here’s the update as provided by Everett Fire: The Everett Fire Department responded to reports of a fire aboard a 60-70 foot vessel docked at the Port of Everett North Marina A-dock. The 911 caller reported a fire inside the boat and they were attempting to use a fire extinguisher to put the fire out; however, the flames began to spread and grow larger.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the stern of the boat and quickly worked to bring it under control and fully extinguished it by 4:20 p.m., preventing it from spreading through the boat or extending to the marina or neighboring vessels. The fire was limited to the thruster and dedicated batteries, with damage contained to the stern area. Fortunately, all occupants of the affected boat and surrounding boats were evacuated safely, and there were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Everett Fire Marshal’s Office. Preliminary information suggests that it may have been triggered by an overheated thruster unit during docking maneuvers in challenging current and wind conditions.
